Hanging Out At Easter
So I'm getting ready to head north to Bradford and Eastercon, the big annual British SF convention, where I'll be taking part in a few panels, hosting the BSFA Awards with Kim Newman (we also do weddings and bar mitzvahs, rates surprisingly reasonable), generally hanging out, and hopefully seeing something of Bradford's sturdy Victorian architecture. To add a note of randomness to my weekend, the first reader of this blog to find me and mention Unlikely Worlds will win a copy of the new edition of Eternal Light. Don't be shy.

There is some great architecture, in particular the town hall, but marvel at the short-sightedness of the planning department in the 60's. One can hope that a boxy concrete multi-storey carpark will look beautiful in 50 years' time but I suspect it won't.
The National Media Museum has often has good exhibitions on, though some (but not all) of the permanent stuff is a little worn.
The Impressions Gallery is small but often what it does have is high quality.
Both are free.
Should you happen to have time for a side-trip I recommend nearby Saltaire (on the rail network) a model town built by Sir Titus Salt, and there's also a great Hockney gallery in a converted mill at the bottom of the town.
Thanks for the head's up. I'm staying in the city centre, and hope to get in some walking when not shuttling between there and the ring road, where the convention is glamorously located. I'm a sucker for a mad gothic town hall.
