Hi, Paul. I'm about 150 pages into The Quiet War right now, and I'm really enjoying it. I was wondering, have you ever considered putting together a timeline of events as they happened in the Quiet War universe? Something like Al Reynolds did with his Revelation Space stories (http://voxish.tripod.com/id18.html). After reading about things like the Overturn and the Chinese attack on Mars, I'd like to see that all laid out, see how it all went down.

I have to confess that I've never worked up a proper timeline with key moments in the 'back story' nailed down by dates. The two events you mention (and the attempt by the major political players on Earth to reclaim the Moon) are about all you need to know to understand the set up for The Quiet War, the internal chronologies of The Quiet War and Gardens of the Sun have anchor points within the narratives, and I left it at that. Still, there's a 1500 year gap between those two novels and In The Mouth of the Whale, and the novel I'm working on now sketches in some of the key events in that long stretch of time, so at some point I'll need to make an informal timeline to remind myself of what happened where. When I do, and when the time is right, I might publish that. But since setting things down formally does make one something of a hostage when it comes to inserting further novels into the timeline, it will probably only happen when I decide I don't want to play in that particular sandbox any more.
